can i use a supplmentary text that is part of the hsc course but not one that i am studying?

i.e for journeys i'm studying immigrant chronicle but would also like to use the adventures of Huckleberry Finn

can i do this or not?

You can as long as it's not a prescribed text for that unit. Teachers generally advise you not to though because the markers know it is a prescribed text for the HSC and tend to look down on it. Even if it isn't one of your texts they would still think that you didn't really look for a supplementary text and jujst used one from class. They don't see your other answers so they don't know you didn't study it. They will assume you studied it. But yeah you can use it.
