Hey guys - i dont think this has been discussed and it crossed my mind when i couldnt find the timetabl'ing for a subject in my fifth year (long story:) )

Now i remember coz its probably an external only subject.
Its probably in the handbook somewhere, but an external subject is simply like doing it via coorespondence ? :(
Are the hecs fees for that subject the same as internal ?
Say in the fifth year, when do i do it, 1st SEM, or 2nd ? (Ive got room for it in both)..or... could i do the MAX. 4 subjects in SM1, and still do the external subject ?

I know it's probably a long way a way - and not applicable to all - just good to know.

wow you've already planned out your degree!! LOL.. don't worry i have already! hahahaha.. i'm extremely bored!!

as for taking an external subject, that usually means you do the subject at another uni. the hecs fees would still be the same. as for when you do it, you will have to find out, when the time comes, what semester it is offered like the rest of the timetabling system. so if its offered in first sem, then you do it in first sem. you also do that with your other subjects, that is find out what session they are being offered in and make your timetable!!

btw, what unit is this external unit?

in the handbook, page 442, it says its being offered externally in session 2 (X2). it doesn't say which uni its being offered externally at.

Urgh, this wil lbe my third attempt at replying to this.. stupid login system.

Anyway, distance education at mq, is NOT completed at another univeristy. It is mearly completed at distance.. so that can be home, or the library, frankly, anywhere you want... You do assessments, studies , reports, everything at home.

There is the exception for some subjects where tutes and labs are involved. In this case, there are designated weekends (normally only one or two) where you must attent to compelte practical lab or tute sessions to meet subject requriments. These are given out before the semester begins.

In regards to HECS, there is no difference. You are charged normally. However, if you are studies one or more subjects distance, make sure you only pay the necessary student fees. In most cases you do not have to pay some student union and those other crap fees that you normaly encounter.

ok.. that should be it.

also , btw, about 60% of subjects can be offered via distance. Its a good idea if you find yourself travelling too much, working too much or too lazy enough. Though it is important to keep up to date. Self disiple is essentaial, though MQ does provide suitable instructions on how to sucessfully study at home doing distance learning.
