Text Books for Ancient History (1 Viewer)

My teacher is great, but hasn't been following the syllabus which is throwing me off :S Does anyone use a text book for ancient history, any recommendations?

in order of dot points, ie chronologically, or just, making it up as they go?

first thing, talk to your ah teacher and let them know how youre feeling, if youre concerned about something, etc, etc.

secondly, it depends on the electives youre taking.

over all, the excell book is good for quick revision, but not much else.

for pompeii, i find the estelle lazer book (cant remember what its called) very very good.

i can only speak for greece at the moment, but pamela bradlee is good in terms of sources and detail. very dry though.

I think the best thing is to use a few text books (Antiquity, Studies in ..., etc etc) and make your own notes based on them.

Don't be afraid to look up the non-HSC secondary sources, though. Some 'academic' books are still accessible to HSC students - eg Ken Kitchen's Pharaoh Triumphant: The Life and Times of Ramesses II is great for the Ramesside Society, AIII-RII period, and Ramesses II Personality.
