would u 2nd yr + ppl recommend
get new or old?

do ppl need yr1 books in yr2 + ?
for reference perhaps?

and also

if 2nd hand, other then 2nd hand bookshops, is there like community board posts at UNSW in the first few weeks wif 2nd yr+ students trying to offload the books or no one cares bout making money and getting rid of books?

Check the notice boards on the Basser steps, and outside Mathews on the Library Lawn side for noticeboards. I put up my list there and in an hour all my phone slips were taken

in reference to new vs old
always check with your course outline/lecturer as to whether the absolute newest edition is required, or whether u can still use an older edition
if the 2nd had edition is the same as new, then by all means buy it 2nd hand and save a lot of money
