Just wondering if other schools have text books for IT.
Manly High has none; most of us are doing SDD or IPT, so i guess thats where we are getting our info from.

we got 2 textbooks..

the books were written specfically for the cert II, so it covers the stuff you need to know

- Communicating in an IT Environment
- Fundamentals of System Administration

plus we get OTEN stuff (we have to pay for the photocopies! something about too much paper)

I attend at St Johns Park and we are using an IPT Textbook as well as alot of print outs from a TAFE Booklet.. Its pretty good, it outlines everything you need to know and is put in simple language for you to understand!

Communicating in an IT Environment - Kaye Burton & Karen Ke Rossignol

Fundamentals of Systems Administration - editor: John Hamilton

the publishers for both books are Eastern House

the textbooks are good for reference......but if u know computers already, say do IPT, SDD, etc...... u may find them too basic...

still I find having some books is better than no books....imo anyway

my teacher gives us module booklets as we do each module. there is no textbook though, even though the module booklets often make reference to one. i'm thinking of getting one of my own, just to make sure i'm covering everything that may be in the hsc exam.

Hey Everyone...

I am currently studying II as well...and i agree with you all that it is difficult to find resources especially when it comes to studying for exams. I have 'Communicating in an IT environment' and it is helpful when creating notes for:
- Work effectively in an IT environment
- Communicate in the workplace
- Apply Occupational Health and Safety procedures
- Recieve and process oral and written communication
- Interact with clients

I have not heard of the other one that a few of you mention but I will follow it up and have a look. My course is done purely over the internet as I live in the country. My school networks with the other schools in my district so that we can run the course. If you paste the link below it will take you to our resource page located on our website. It is just a list of textbooks and learning resources, it will tell you which module it relates to:

http://www.oaklands-c.schools.nsw.edu.au/IT/Resources.htm

My IT coordinator/teacher told me the best thing any of us can do is complete as many past IT exam papers has possible so that we can get a feel for the questions that will be asked. She said that many are similar just asked in various ways. The link below will take you to the IT section of the Studentnet website where there are a stack of past papers:

http://www.studentnet.edu.au/index1.html

You may need to enter a username and password:

or if you prefer you can register to become a member.

Another great resource is the HSC online website, it has a glossary and review questions for most of the core topics and elective strands and are very useful when revising for exams and studying in general...they also provide some notes. Once again just paste the following link into your browser to view the website:

http://www.hsc.csu.edu.au

You do not have to be a member to use this service.

Well I didn't set it out to be this long, but I just kept thinking of more things that I find useful when preparing notes and completeing tasks. I also study IPT, so i often use my IPT textbook and other computing study textbooks from previous years. So if you are able to get your hands on any of thoughs then they can be useful as well.

I just wanted to ask one more thing...a few of you mentioned Tafe handbooks and handouts that you get notes from...I was just wondering what they are called and where I might be able to get a copy???

Well I think that will be all from me for now...as I find new helpful websites or I find interesting information that we can all benefit from I will let u know. Feel free to contact me at any time if u have any questions or are stuck on anything I may be able to help.

Thanks...
Seeya all later...
Juz

P.S. I apologise for the length of this message...lol!
