I'm really confused. I'm doing history extension for my HSC and I'm stuck on one of the main focus questions.

So, does anyone want to tell me:

why have approaches to history changed over time?

I'm fine with all the others, just this one has me stumped.

Much appreciated... If I get answers

I never liked "Why" questions. I can give you an answer: because people think differently, but that doesn't really consist of an essay does it...

Turning a "why" question into a "how" helps me write better. When you outline how change is done you can sort of analyze why it occured. So for this question I would say approaches to history change over time due to changes in popular or scholarly thought - there's a line of thought that historical writing is as much as yesterday as it is about now or something along those lines. That is, German studies of Frederick the Great during Nazi rule is different to contemporary German studies of Frederick not because he's schizophenic and has two personalities (I haven't really studied him so this is an assumption) but because the then prevalent ideologies

Having a question like that doesn't really entail examples, but it's expected that you do in an extension history essay anyway.

Hope that helps.
