I noticed that some people were questioning the usefulness of
predicting your UAI since you have a long time after recieving
your UAI to decide your preferences.

However, there are acctually several important uses

- Deciding if your current performance in your subject is adequate
- Decisions involving droping/taking up a subject
- Reassurance/calming nerves
- Knowing whether a career is is reachable, thus whether you should do more research into it

for universities
- possibly to predict the possiblity of a student to reach a particular scholarship cut-off

and imo, you are doing this by working out what type of marks you need.

for example:

dont' just thing "oh, sam didn't use this subject, i am going to drop it" (as some people in my class actually almost did last year)

more helpful would be to see what types of marks you need in each subject to get the same UAI. you may have 8 units, and then not know whether to do drama or mathematics. typing in possible marks, you may, for example, need a band 6 in drama, but a band 3 in mathematics, to get the same UAI. which is more realistic for you? that is how you can use it for subject selection
