I need to write what my teacher is calling a technical analysis to address the question: How have the composers of Wall-E and Maus used visual components to show the impact of the past on the present? I was told the focus of the essay must be more on techniques rather than themes. I missed a few lessons where presumably the kind of response necessary was discussed and so I'm just a bit lost as to what kind of thesis point I would have (I must avoid discussing themes). Would an example be how past events shape characterisation? And also how can I 'elaborate' on such a thesis point without mentioning the text at? (what we were instructed to do). I don't know what to say...

Help is appreciated :)
