I've got an essay due in 3 days and I am super duper stuck with writing the thesis statement The essay question is :
Tragedy as a genre has been described as:
‘[…] an intense exploration of suffering and evil focused on
the experience of an exceptional individual, distinguished by rank or character or both.” (McAlidon, 2006)
To what extent does this description align with your understanding of Romeo and Juliet?
In your response, make detailed reference to your prescribed text.
My arguments that I've come up with are:
1. Fate is evil in the play as it cruelly brings Romeo and Juliet together but their being together spells their demise.
2. Misunderstandings in the play explore intense suffering (like the death scene)
3. While distinguished by rank, both Romeo and Juliet fail to hold any substantial positive character traits (e.g. recklessness, spitefulness, lustfulness' etc.) This is my counter paragraph
Any help is appreciated
