Thoughts on buying stereos (1 Viewer)

What are your thoughts?

They didn't seem to be going anywhere technology wise for years. I heard today that some of the new ones have a place for USB transfer or something along those lines.

Do you think it is worth having a stereo or should we all go for ipods with speakers?

What features are important in stereos? I think that it must be able to play mp3 files, but even that is a bit useless with portable devices like ipods - who can be bothered with cds these days?

What are some upcoming features?

Depends on how big you want it, i have a 7.1 system set up for the home cinema and playing SACD/DVD-A and other things like that

There are some stereos that feature a USB host, so that you can plug in a flash drive or USB HD and play the music stored on them. You have to be wary, though; some stereos have a usb port, but simply act as a external sound card for a pc... not so useful IMHO. Others can stream music off a LAN, play minidiscs or act as a dvd player. You're right though, unless you're a audiophile, a digital music player with some computer speakers are a better option for alot of people.
