practice, practice, practice.
read over vocab lists, as you cant use a dictionary
walk around the house talking to yourself (ie im hungry, i would like some bread, i studied for an hour, in french obviously)
concentrate on expressions cles, ie key expressions for each topic (find them in your text)
go over as many irregular verbs as youcan-the only way is to learn them by rote.
write down how you form different tenses that you have done ie perfect, present, near future, imperfect, future if you havedone it, and out them up around your room.
from the topic areas, do writing tasks ie on your last holiday, your family or whatever, if possible get your prof to mark them for you.
if you're feeling lazy, watch french films!!

good luck!! (i havent started studying for continuers or ext yet myself!!!)

^It's true! The more you say this sort of stuff to yourself, ad the more that you think/talk to yourself in French, more your iwll remember etc..

a has it pretty well covered, ashleigh :). Vocab is very important, as is learning of genders, word order etc. Learning genders of words can influence the way how other words in the sentence are formed, so it is pretty important to know if its le or la etc...

Re: Films - lot of them coming up. Plus Le journal Mon-Sat at 9.20am on SBS, SBS radio Tues, Thurs, Fri at 11am, Sat at 9pm and Sun at 4pm (Syd and melbourne. No Thursday or Sat in other areas). Check out www.surfmusic.de for some French radio stations for music etc, which is always good for modern vocab for extended writing responses. Check out www.rfi.fr for their "Les nouvelles en français facile" which has comprehension type questions etc.
