Has many helpful notes so check that out for in depth reading.

As a summary.

(can we get a sticky explaining how transfers work cos this is like the 5th topic which is about transferring)

Enrol into a degree at MQ, preferably one which is close to your intended degree and one which a) allows freedom to choose units ( B Arts or another general degree with few cores is a go) b) uses some of the core units from the intended course in the same course (very unlikely)

[ For terminology, Cores are subjects which are mandatory in completion set forth by the university. http://handbook.mq.edu.au/degrees.php?edition=2005&level=ug Go there and select the intended degree, and view the 'Program of Study.' That is basically your guide to what subjects you will NEED to do and other such requirements. Units = Subjects, Courses = Degrees ]

Now, once you have the appropriate information, you can now go find out about your intended degrees Transfer Criteria ( Found http://handbook.mq.edu.au/PDFs/2005/ug-general-student-info.pdf, page 10.)

Now you have that, what do the numbers etc mean?

CP = Credit Points. Think of these as the HSC delegations of 'units' ie, a base unit is 2unit English/Maths. It follows that thinking, but most first year are 3 CP. There is usually a 12 or 18 CP requirement on transfers.
GPA = Grade Point Average. Basically MQ uni measures your grades on a scale of 0-4

0 = F
1 = PC (pass conceded)
2 = Pass
3 = Credit
4 = Distinction
4 = High Distinction

You take the marks you get, for example if i was doing 4 units worth 3 CP each.

A (3cp - D) B (3cp - P) C (3p - Cr) D (3p - Cr) for semester one, i would calculate the GPA as:

cr points x grade point + ...... + cr points x grade point / total number of cr points.

so:

A [3cp x 4] + B [3cp x 2] + C [3cp x 3] + D [3cp x 3]/ [3 + 3 + 3 + 3 ]

(12 + 6 + 9 + 9)= 36
/(3 + 3 + 3 + 3)= 12
GPA = 3.0

Hope that cleared up a few more questions.
Im sure if it needs editing, the mods could perhaps fix it up ?
(ps. copy + pasted from other post)

cr points x grade point + ...... + cr points x grade point / total number of cr points.

eg: if A and B in asylum's example were 4 cr points:
[(4 x 4) + (4 x 2) + (3 x 3) + (3 x 3)] / (4 + 4 + 3 +3)

Hey, it says this in relation to transferring to Law:

[you must have]
...
completion of LAW113 (P/C) &
LAW103 (P/C) and ...

How can I do those two courses if I'm not enrolled in Law Yet?

You apply to the Law Dept to do the those units (they have requirements of course). You transfer after you've past the two units. You can do the units without being enrolled in a degree in Law.

You APPLY to get into the QUOTA for LAW113/103 (Now changed to 114/104)
Once your in, you must "P/C" it, with GPA2.0 to be able to transfer to LLB.
But, i've heard, from ASYLUM, that there is another QUOTA on the transfer that depends on the students GPA.

So, the hardest bit, is getting into the QUOTA.

thanks for answers
what's this "quota" business? UAI+Marks in Uni? the handbook doesn't say anything about it.

Why is the GPA so low, isn't law popular? I mean, that's got the lowest transfer out of all of them, most are between 2.5 and 3...

U quote Ur UAI when applying for LAW.

GPA2.0 is the minimum. Obviously, a person with GPA 4, will have a high chance in the transfer. Unless they stuff up the written application question.
