Hey everyone, I've just been having trouble writing about Crossing The Red Sea and other things in general. I've started writing a summary essay for it but i've pretty much gotten stuck at every point along the way. Maybe its just because of the holidays and i've forgotten how to write, but if anyone could have a look at it and help me out it'd be much appreciated. It's incomplete and i dont really have much of a thesis to go with.

It's pretty much as you said - there needs to be a thesis that you have to go with from the start and back up all the way through. In your case you sort of mentioned the fact that for immigrants it's not a journey of choice. If you're stuck for ideas, you could follow that through.

As for picking out techniques, remember, you don't have to go through the poem stanza by stanza... let the argument come first, *then* have examples to back it up. So I would say that even before you started writing it, you should ask yourself three things: a) what's my theses b) what sub points do I have within that thesis (aim for about 3 as a general rule of thumb) and c) do I have enough examples to back it up. If you don't have enough examples, more likely than not your thesis is too esoteric and probably not worth persuing since it's harder to 'make it work'...
