UAI Adjustments: Credit Transfers, etc... (2 Viewers)

Okay, so, for example, at uni, if you don't get into the course you want and you do another one, they give you credit for it and they fix up your UAI so you can get into that course.
With TAFE, they have something similar. If you want to do the HSC and you've previously completed a TAFE course, they can cut down your units.

My case is a little different. It involves fixing up your UAI through Open High School, not uni. Is that possible?

I want to do Spanish Beginners. But I have to take the preliminary course this year, even though I'm doing my HSC (because I didn't do the prelim. last year). After I finish high school, I still continue with the HSC Spanish Beginners course. I get my certificate for that at the end of 2009. In this scenario, it would not be counted as part of my UAI (I am doing 10 units currently).

HOWEVER.... Should I do better in Spanish than one of my other subjects (such as Business Studies lol), is it possible to have it included in my 2009 UAI calculation?

I want Spanish on my HSC anyway (the actual certificate) so when I finish in 2009, I will be sending it in to the BOS to give me a new certificate with Spanish on it as part of my subjects.

I am going to do Spanish through Open High School, so it is board developed and a category A subject (that doesn't really matter though). Anyway, point is, it does contribute towards your UAI.

The only catch is that I have to be enrolled as a student at either a high school or TAFE institute to continue studying with Open High School (they said I could ask my high school to keep me enrolled as a "pretend" student).

So yeah. Anyway...
Can they fix up my UAI or not? I read somewhere that you have 5 years to complete your HSC. If this is really the case, then I should be fine, no?

I asked our year advisor and careers thingy. They're not sure. Meant to make a call and get back to me, but never did.

Does anybody know?? I don't want to spend another hour on the phone with the Board of Studies.

You cannot be doing the HSC and uni at the same time, well you can but one of them must be discredited. But i do not know your circumstances, if you are trying to get into another uni course i reccomend transfering after one year or midsemester if you have just missed out on the other course.

If you do better in Spanish then Biz your best 10 units are taken and your uai is recalculated.

Yes they will send certificate out, like they do with the HSC and SC.

Quite obviously it is an uai contributing course.

It is best to talk to your school principal with this, otherwise you must fit certain criteria to be a HSC student at tafe, presumably obtaining a certificate of hsc studies at tafe.

yes that is the case, but i doubt that your uai would improve much as Spanish Beginners is a very low scalling 2 unit subject and you still have to do reasonably well to get a better uai with it.

I meant that if your UAI is 60 for example, and you wanted to XYZ but you were only able to get into course ABC, then you complete your first year of ABC and obtain good marks so they give you "credit" for it, which is "added" onto your UAI so you can make the cut-off for the course you want (e.g. 65 to get into XYZ).
But that has nothing to do with what I want.

Languages are actually very good when it comes to scaling I'm sure I'll do better and anyway, I've got a category B course (TVET ENTERTAINMENT).

Yeh but do a simillar course so that your units are more likely to be credited and you maybe given advanced standing. The marks from your first year of uni usually disqualify the use of your uai unless your going for a course at UNSW which is 50/50 uai and tertiary marks(GPA).

At ANU the band mark allocations are lower 80 is an HD i think, so it should be easier to get better marks there.

Beginners isn't, my friend topped french beginners and it didn't help her uai heaps.

For the billionth time, I'm not concerned about uni. I was just explaining what I meant by the equation "UAI - uni + Open High School = new UAI".

Yep, that's what I meant.

But dw about, I've already sorted everything out.

The BOS don't keep you on hold for long, but we talked for an hour and to be honest, those guys don't shut up. They don't seem to get many calls. I almost hung up on them twice.
