Am hoping to transfer to law next year. This semester (my first at uni) I was only studying part time but next sem I will be switching to fulltime. By the end of the year I would have had 6 units under my belt. If I were to have a sufficient wam, would I be disadvantaged due to my having 6 units rather than 8 which I suppose most transfer hopefuls would have?

You need to have completed 8 units for them to consider your tertiary record, otherwise they'll be considering your ATAR alone.

If you're still intent on transferring, I'd suggest doing a subject in Winter School, and 5 subjects in Semester 2.

Yeah, Amleops is right. You won't just be disadvantaged, your WAM just flat out won't be considered at all.
