Is it valid to use abbreviations in extended responses and short answers?
e.g. ^ for an increase, gov't for government, Aust. for Australia etc.

Do markers get frustrated when you use abbreviations like that??

nah man, definitely dont use abbreviations in ur essays, my teacher strictly warned us against using those.. especially ^ for increase lol :) ..theyre only good to use when making notes in class
however i think its fine to do abbreviations for organisations and certain things.. eg: in an essay write down "Current Account Deficit (CAD)" and then u can use "CAD" throughout ur essay.. same with APEC, OPEC, OECD.. write out the full name the first time only.

Hmm...yea, that's what I thought. ^ was meant to be an up arrow by the way - I use up/down arrows in my notes - same with --> for "leads to". But yea, I thought it would look kind of informal to use them in a formal essay.

Btw. those emoticons next toy your UAI...are they meant to represent shock at such a good UAI or shock that you didn't get higher? Coz with a mark like that in Ancient...
