which one would be worth going to? i have the mysydney scholarship (provides 8.5k every year for the degree duration) as well as the gateway one (a 1 off 11k). usyd is also closer to me than unsw as i live in south west sydney. however i have heard of usyd exams being alot harder than UNSW which is one of my dealbreakers.

genuinely stuck and unsure on which one i should pick

it's all relatively similar in terms of opportunities and difficulty of courses. I'd determine whether the difference in travel time is worth something and the difference in scholarship money is worth something (11k vs 8.5k*4)

disagree, usyd's harder and keeps a slight (albeit diminishing) premium in terms of opportunities. *on second reading - relatively similar -> i guess you can say so

depends how high you want to aim in law. usyd probably still holds a premium at the very top end of the legal profession - i.e. becoming a judge etc. otherwise regular corporate law etc., not much of a difference

alright got it thank you for this, as for the environment how wide is the gap between unsw and usyd? also are joining things like clubs and societies necessary or useful for employment opportunities because ive heard on multiple occasions that unsw surpasses usyd in terms of this

also are all usyd exams closed book and handwritten?
majority open book, in person handwritten, some courses borderline impossible to finish exams within time limit
unsw is typed, with word-count limit afaik, and more generous time allowances (but i suppose your answers would be marked against a higher quality given this)

as for the environment, id say the large majority of people who get into both usyd/unsw law would choose usyd, so in theory usyd ends up with a fairly stronger cohort (however this is probably disadvantageous for your marks in uni since your exam answers are compared to those around you)

yes clubs and societies are useful, try get an exec position if you have time.

arguably, the average usyd student would have stronger employment outcomes coming out of unsw or uts law [i dont think firms are adjusting hard enough to account for the lower usyd grades that people end up with]

Not sure on the specifics for comm/law... but in general usyd and unsw are both great uni's so don't worry too much about one giving you a bad education.

In terms of exams, most usyd exams are handwritten, though it depends on the subject. I know at least some law exams are open book... don't know how common that is though since i don't study law.

In terms of clubs and societies, no employer is going to give someone a job just bc they joined a society. It might look good if you were an exec or something but there are lots of ways to get that leadership experience. Don't know how they compare, but both usyd and unsw have plenty of clubs across a range of areas. Good to join once you are there but not needed. If you are really worried about employability then focus more on getting internships or working for academics later on.

last thing, don't discount which uni you like more. Doesn't have to be a specific reason... but you want to enjoy being at uni. I do think that you will be able to enjoy both fine once you are there... but if for some reason you just want to go to a particular uni, that could be the deciding factor.

Don't stress too much... try to get an offer for each across the offer rounds if possible and give yourself more time to consider. You have two great options... do your best to determine which is best for you but remember that you are not risking choosing a "bad" uni/course. Also, like always, transferring is an option.

definitely agree re this 'last thing, don't discount which uni you like more' - the vibe does differ
