Utterly Urgent! Need "Techniques In Poetry" (1 Viewer)

Good God! im writing an essay for "A Dream" by Vittorio Sereni, and i need to know what techniques are USUALLY associated with poetry. Any suggestions? It would REALLY help! The actual poem doesnt matter, i just need techniques Thank You So Much!

whoah this takes me back 2 the horror of hsc english... so glad im at uni

No introductions, research a little of the background of the author and apply that to the poem, if possible... work on finding links in the poem to every day life (or whatever situation the poem is set in) and a pattern to the poem... that kinda thing. Well, at least, that's how I got the best mark for my essays in class.
