hmm well, i'm trying to fix my old old old computer (say, 5 years old? running under win98) and i reformated etc etc and now i'm left with 16 colours. i know to look in the control panel and change, but the only colour options are 2 colours and 16. from my comp, i tried downloading the bios installer thing, burning it and transferring it to this comp, but the comp doesnt read the "setup" icon like my other one. i thought of temporarily connecting it to the internet. the same problem arises. it does read the file to install it, only the read me's. what should i do now?

Is it a integrated Video Card or an actual video card?

it sounds like an integrated one, or maybe a cheap 2mb one...should just be a case of install drivers and that should be it, usually if its integrated the boot disk/repair cd they provide if it was bought with a company should have the necessary stuff, if not its just a matter of finding out the card's name or motherboard name...

kick me if im wrong :)

Well if it's onboard video you can just use the given System Motherboard Installation Disk, and if it's just a video card you can most probably just download it, but you need to know the manufacturer's details etc... I was just a little lost when i read bios installer.

Right click on My Computer go to properties under Devices tab or Hardware not sure i haven't used 98 in ages

look for Display Adapters expand the tree for that selection and then it should be Standard VGA or something right now or what ever, select that and go to update driver

insert the disk that you said they gave you then there should be some options like search automatically or something in CD-ROM, Floppy media.

Yeah that's normally the shitty method of doing it, but the folder names in the CD should be quite plain

like it would probbaly me most likely be in a folder called

Drivers

then VGA

then W98

normally the file type is .ini

It's hard when you don't know the brand(s) or type of card.

It's probably best to find generic drivers to solve this one, seeing as though the card is pretty old (half a decade).
