... from your parents. How much would you say an average guy who lives in catered Bruce Hall should get each week/month. Nothing too tight, maybe able to save some dollars at the end of the month to save up for something.

wow thats a big question to answer. I mean (at johns - practically the same as bruce anyway - despite what neo_o thinks) there are people who are living off government benifits, or having to work (12+hrs a week) themselves to pay for the fees, and anything else they might incur. On the other hand there are people who are given "daddy's credit card" and can go loose, provided its justified.

In my case - Mum&Dad pay for johns - i pay for everything else (beer, shampoo, field trips, text books etc lol )

At the end of the day all you really spend money on is beer, party related things (i.e. theme nights), snacks, text books, field trips, tolietries/washing powder and the odd thing here and there, and nights out with people (i.e. bday dinners) [oo and gf]. first 3 weeks is probably the most expensive, after that you could easily spend less than $30 a week.

If you've got to propose an amount to our olds - get them to cover bruce, text books, field trips etc. then start bargaining from there.

$30 eh? Sounds alright, though I think my parents will cover bruce, text books, etc. anyways. Thanks.

just think about it in the perspective of now. Think of every moment when you just ask mum to buy that chocolate, or those sports shoes etc. Then divide that by 40 weeks lol. Also think of things you would use at home i.e. soaps etc that you wouldn't normally buy. Also if you drink cognac, you should adjust for that.

i survived on $50 a week in my first year at Bruce. it was pretty difficult at times, but that's because i got out a lot, spent lots while socialising with friends (going out to dinner, cafes, going to moose every thursday - it all adds up). that being said, plenty of people got by with less than that, so it can be done. you just have to be pretty careful about how you have a good time - it's easy to spend $40+ on a big night out.

10* $2 drinks at moose 9-12 pm with a moose card :p = $20
Chicken gourmet = $5
Total = $25 :p

Edit - Spend that big night out on a thursday, and hour of power will lower the above cost to $17 lol

well yeah, i rarely spend more than $10 when i go out - hour of power ftw!

but doing:
-jägerbombs
-going to the casino
-staying much later than you realise and the drinks get expensive and you're too drunk to realise that you're paying more for drinks
-buying girls drinks in the vain hope of scoring
leads to a much emptier wallet...

when compared to sydney, you're 'expensive' night out will come to about $70, instead of $250

only been there once, one night a bunch of the first year bruce guys decided to dress up and hit the town. ended up at the casino. i was poor and had self-restraint and managed not to spend anything :) was quite proud of myself, usually i love to gamble a bit, especially in poker.

one of my friends put $10 in the machine roulette table thingy. then she accidentally put $3 on no.12 and couldn't work out how to take it off. before she knew it, she'd won $110...

most people lost a fair bit though. lolz. the casino itself isnt't that big. it's not too dark and dingy, though it's not exactly flash. and all around are people with gambling addictions and asian tourists. so yeah, once you've been there once, that's probably enough....

pretty shit. went there to take a leak and help myself to some free soap on a night-out and was surprised to see they fit everything in one fucking huge hall.
