Hi, I was just wondering, what should the weighting of each text used in an essay be. For example, i'm doing 2 core texts and 2 related, so how many words should i have for each text? Should it be more emphasis on the core texts, or is it meant to be equally distributed amongst the 4 texts?

Thanks!

I would say you should equally distribute them and discuss their interrelationships throughout the essay rather than focusing on one text at a time.

I was always more comfortable with equal weighting, but as you synthesise within your essay it could be said you might naturally dedicate more to your core texts. But that's totally okay! My teachers (who were HSC markers) said it is acceptable to have a 60/40 ratio of Core to Relateds, in fact, they encouraged it with students who were struggling with analysing a text on their lonesome.
