I got into a pretty crazy car accident today. Some guy forgot what a stopsign is and decided to make my day miserable. No i've got no car, a massive (massive) headache and a pile of study to get through.

I've been advised by a few different people and teachers to look into applying for misadventure (i think that's what it's called), and I wanted to know whether anyone here has been through the process (or simply knows about it) which would save me a lot of work tomorrow.

I was already pretty stressed about monday's maths exam, but now I'm just nuts. Can't sleep, can't study for more than about 5 minutes before crying in frustration (ffs i couldn't integrate 4x^3.. not a good sign), can't seem to do much other than listen to music and muse over the meaninglessness of life in general. The nihilism comes from the stress, I think.

So yeah, if anyone could help, I would be very (very) appreciative.

yeh i had fun filling in one today.

You basically fill in a box saying how the misadventure or illness affected your performance in the exam, or how it prevented you from doing it, you get some supporting evidence, the supervisor fills a box in, you sign it. and its done.

"So what happens after that though? Do they still mark your responses if you completed them? Do you get extra marks or do they just use your internal mark without any regard for what you did in the exam..."

EDIT: Found the answer

(v) If your appeal is upheld, you will be awarded the higher of your examination
mark and your moderated assessment mark. Your Record of Achievement will
indicate if an assessment mark is used.

Btw for Nwatts:

15. Illness/misadventure appeals
If you believe that your performance in the examination was diminished because of
circumstances beyond your control, you can lodge an illness/misadventure appeal.
(i) You may appeal for a variation to your results if you were prevented from
attending an examination, or you consider that your performance was affected
by illness or misadventure immediately before or during the examination.
Appeal forms are available from the presiding officer or principal. Further
details of appeal procedures are on the form and on the Illness/Misadventure
Information Guide for Students sheet. It is your right and responsibility to lodge
an appeal.
(ii) You must retain the acknowledgment slip from the illness/misadventure appeal
form signed by the presiding officer or principal.
(iii) The illness/misadventure appeals process does not cover:
• difficulties in preparation or loss of preparation time;
• alleged deficiencies in tuition;
• loss of study time or facilities prior to the formal study vacation;
• misreading of the timetable;
• misreading of examination instructions;
• failure to enter for the examination in the correct course;
• long-term illness such as glandular fever, asthma and epilepsy – unless there
is evidence of a sudden recurrence during the examination;
• courses which are undertaken as a self-tuition student.
(iv) If you have been granted special examination provisions such as extra time, you
are generally not eligible for illness/misadventure appeals unless you
experience additional difficulties during the examinations.
(v) If your appeal is upheld, you will be awarded the higher of your examination
mark and your moderated assessment mark. Your Record of Achievement will
indicate if an assessment mark is used.
(vi) Illness/misadventure appeals for HSC written examinations must be lodged with
the Board of Studies (not UAC) shortly after the examination in question.
Appeals for practical examinations, performances or submitted works must be
lodged within one week of the date of the examination, performance or
submission.
(vii) Late appeals will be considered only in the most exceptional circumstances. The
results of the appeal will be notified at the same time as the printed examination
results. It is most important that you follow the instructions on the appeal form.
If you do not, the chance of a successful appeal will be seriously jeopardised.

Oh geez. I hope you're feeling ok. Firstly, try and get some quality sleep by just, not thinking of anything for the time being. You should ring up your year co-ordinator or principal and hopefully, they will get the form and do everything, so you wont have to worry. I have no idea about these forms, but im sure you can get it signed and filled out easily. Dnt worry about it, just focus on maths or sleep or relaxx.
