I recently bought a car and Ive noticed that it has 1 different wheel nut per mag so Im guessing thats for security. My question is though, how can they be taken off say if I get a flat tyre or need a wheel change? Am I meant to have got a special thing to take them off with OR do mechanics etc have a tool for it?

Thnx in Advance

There is a 'key' that you need to remove them intact. I recommend getting one as it will be vital if you ever have a flat.

Go to an autobarn or supercheap and see if you can find the same locknuts as you have (you will need to buy a new set to get the key).

Your only other option is to accept carrying a hammer and coal chisel or close-ish socket around and being willing to get physical on it. Or accepting the wait for an NRMA guy to do the same.

I strongly recommend getting a key - if you cant then have them removed (a tyre centre can do this..) and replace them with ones to which you have a key.

Look in the toolbag in your boot sweetie, the "key" should be in there.

Alternatively take it to a tyre and wheel place and they'll beat on the closest looking key then remove the nut.

Yeah, thats what I had in mind.... I only thought though that they didnt sell the key in the packs because doesnt that kinda defeat the purpose of the locks? Any wanna-b-criminal can just buy a couple of sets and their goes the usefulness of them!

Yeah I did, it isnt their. I might ring the dealer up actually to see if he can chase it up because thats something that should have been included..... unless the previous owner lost it.

If you bought it from a dealer then definetly get them to either find you the key, or remove the locknuts already on there and replace them with new ones.

They sell the key in the packs because how the hell else does anyone get them on or off?

They arnt brilliant security for this reason and that they can be removed woithout the key - you just need to get abit physical.
