You would probably have to pay to access sites outside of the university system (or at least that is how I think it works at USyd, as I can't see it opertaing any differently to the regular access centres with their 2mb daily limit of external material).

They do, but my brother (who is on the UNSW staff) says that the wireless Internet access is "shit" (his words).

I don't know how many access points they have, but if the UNSW wireless service sucks, then I wouldn't want to use it (might as well use a wired net service in one of the computer labs).

If the University has a Wireless Access Point, transmitting across the campus, then you will be able to pick up the signal (receive) and connect to the Network using your Wireless Network Card - in your laptop.

So yes, it will be able to work. But if you are wanting *fast* Internet access, just use one of the computers available at the university, because I believe the service is slow (I haven't used it, but this is what I've heard).

As a student of UNSW who dosn't use wireless, but has firends who do, it's OK. (The CSE wireless network is better)

Yeah, I haven't ever used the wireless network there, but we'll see next year - I know a few people who want to get Centrinos and Apple i or pbooks to connect to the network (university work, etc).

I'd prefer to use a wired computer though, in one of the computer labs - much more reliable connection, and it "feels" faster (in my opinion).

Either way, as long as it works then she's sweet :)

But the comp labs are always full *sigh*

Your best bet is to head to the Maths comp labs, ssh into your CSE account and launch a browser remotely ('cause Maths labs don't have net acsses).

So does it cost for d/l's then (both using wireless and in the labs)? Does anyone know how much?

@ UNSW:

Lab internet use is free.

CSE Wireless is free.

UniWide Wireless cost around a $1 a day, with download restrctions. CSE students can use there free UDUS account hours to get accsess.

Fropm Home, d/u costs arround 75c/hr through UDUS. Again, CSE get some free time on UDUS.

UTS internet (and network) rocks. Except in GSB, because they're ALL fobs with damn expensive HK laptops, and they hog all the ports :(
