1. I study medical science and plan to major in neuroscience.
2. I wasn't big on science in high school. It most definitely was not a subject I had my best grades in and I only took biology in high school and even then that wasn't my favourite subject. I took a mix of subjects in the HSC, a testament to the fact that I didn't know what uni degree or career to enter. I still had no clue upon leaving high school.
3. I think having a thirst for learning about the world and our place in the world is important. When we had to do ice breakers in the first year of uni and the question of why you chose to study science was asked, the whole learning about how things work thing got mentioned many times. I was inspired by one of my lab demonstrators in first year who clearly had a passion for his research and what I've learned so far at uni has been fascinating so I think science is something you should consider if you find yourself been taken aback by science. There are so many aspects of science. I think there's something of interest for any human being. We are a curious species after all. Also, I love watching documentaries on ABC and SBS dealing with genetics and mutations, the natural world like David Attenborough, and physics and space like Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

1. It will be bio and geography. The Adv major likely the bio.
2. Yes I would, but for me I would have probably told myself to cross it with BA because I had humanities flair that I miss indulging. The reason I'm glad I chose a general science degree opposed to specialised degree is that it gives you wriggle room. You may know you like science, but there's so, so many disciplines in science you don't want to box yourself into one. Say you wanted to major in something heavy in organic chem, you might not realise you hate chem at uni cause it's so different to HS. That's why Sci/Adv Sci etc. are nice because you have the breadth to really try a diversity of science and still have electives as well if you wish. I myself am definitely not doing the major I thought pre uni.
3. I know it sounds stupid, but I'd say it for any degree. Only do it if you think you love it. Do it if you think you will want to work in something to vaguely do with the field in the future. Don't do it because you want to use your marks/you're good at science so you should do it/that your teacher's told you to/that you think it's good for employability reasons/that bob's sexy half uncle told you to.

Having a thirst for science knowledge is what you need if you don't want to stab your eye out with a micropipette in a 4 hr lab. Other than that, there's not really any personality traits imho-people in science degrees are so diverse but the ones that like it, thirst for knowledge and a degree of passion/desire to work in the field in the future.

How are the job prospects like for science? Especially in materials and/or nanotechnology?

I'm thinking about doing a science degree but have been steered by careers advisers, friends, family into engineering since they think you can't get a job in science. Is this true? And how different is science and engineering? Thanks in advance.

would i suggest a science degree majoring in history and philosophy of science? Never.
Would i suggest a science degree majoring in anatomy as a premed aim? Yes
Would I suggest a science degree in genetics? Depends where the persons interests lie.

I was afraid they were. I'll change the thread questions right now. I am also going to find a potential major and then ask for further advice.
