What kind of things can be done to make an essay appear more "integrated" besides writing a few "linking" sentences between each text you discuss?

Also, what should be the primary focus of the response - should each text be treated equally, or should there be slightly more on the prescribed text? Does everything have to relate back to the prescribed text in some way? Or is the purpose of all of the texts simply to support your argument and to answer the question?

Half on prescribed. Half on Supplementary. That's a crude break down. As for integration, the best i can tell you is to not stright out name your techniques such as he uses metaphor, this is seen in ..., and has the following effect. If you can throw it all in the mix and stitch the pieces of fabric into a blanket.

1. There are many threads on this topic. Try the search function. " integrated essays"
2. Generally i wrote a little bit more on the perscribed than my supp texts. Teachers prefer this method. Everything does not have to relate back to the presecribed text, it should back up your argument/thesis.
