Does cooking come under lifestyle? It is on the lifestyle channel on pay tv.....

Anyway, what are your best easy and/or cheap meals or snacks? Share for the benefit of uni students and the time-deprived everywhere.

Here are a few of mine:

-Buy lebanese bread or tortillas (you can get them really cheap)... fold them in half and in the middle use lite tasty cheese along with ingredients of your choice (e.g. ham, herbs like basil or garlic, tomato, sweet chili sauce, whatever really). Cook in a pan or on a sandwich grill. Yummy and easy.

-Chicken or Beef Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup).... for the chicken one, simply use chicken stock, for the beef one you can buy sachets to make up the soup. Then you just use rice noodles which you cook in boiling water, chicken or beef.... then you can add flavor by using fresh herbs, chili, fish sauce, bean sprouts etc. It's not a traditional version, but it is easy and tastes pretty good.

-Cheap and easy chicken curry- eat this with rice- Take one onion, chop and brown in pan. Add mild indian curry powder (I don't really have any measurements for this recipe, it's all to taste) and a small amount of veg oil. Then add chicken thighs, coat them in the curry/onion and just brown them slightly. Then add lite coconut milk and some chicken stock to the pan (like about 1 cup of each)... you might need to add more curry powder at this point. Also, chop up a tomato and put in. Then put on low heat and simmer for 20-30 mins. Take out the chicken pieces, and then add chopped spinach and fresh coriander in to the sauce in the pan and cook for a few minutes..... then serve and eat. This will make a few serves, so you can stick some in the fridge and heat it up later.

If you are a fan of 2 min noodles, you can get these great ones in the asian food aisle at coles.... they are called Mee Goreng Satay I think and they are like 35c! So cheap but so good!!!

ravioli and tomato sauce

boil water and put ravioli in saucepan for 5 mins..chop up one onion..fry in frying pan..when brown, add one tin of chopped tomatoes, a tablespoon of tomato paste and a couple of sprinkles of mixed herbs..heat on stove..ravioli should be ready, drain, stick in bowl, add sauce, die of yummy taste in mouth :D

also good with fettucini..mmmm..

soup is always good...

lightly cook meats....or use leftovers
fry vegetables (harder ones first)
add garlic, add herbs, salt and pepper, lentils are good
chuck it all in a pot with stock and leave for....a while

u can make heaps and freeze it and reheat later......

get a job that you arent home for dinner time.
The all you need is breakfast (cheapest meal of the day)
and then have a late lunch before work. Walah, 2 meals a day

OR

wake up at midday, dont eat for a couple of hours and then eat a big late breaky/lunch/early dinner. even cheaper

plus you get paid as a result. Best of both worlds.

Cheese & Tomato on bread: Put sliced tomato on a piece of bread and put slices of cheese over the top; put it grill. Leave for 5 minutes. Done:D!

lol my cheapest meals are when I am working as a catering assistant and can scab free food sometimes.....

My flatmate makes burritos all the time, they are pretty easy and cheap.

Stirfry was like what I ate nearly every second night when I first moved to Syd, now I am kinda over it lol.

Fried rice is the best. I always come home to tiny bits of leftovers everywhere. So you just chuck in some rice and everything else and break an egg into the wok and hey, you're done.

As far as brekky and snacks are concerned, you can't beat yoghurt and a piece of fruit.

The reason I am alive: SPC tinned spaghetti (you can get it on special from Woolies for $1 / can)
Heat it up, then pour over toast, by itself, place between bread and cook in a sandwich press, whatever.

But, it MUST be SPC!!

hahaha...I've been eating those noodles for ages! they're excellent...but I like the non-satay version. It's also good mixed with chicken and a vegetable mix like carrots, corn and peas.

noodle junkie here. curry flavoured noodles, with chopped up chilli added at the start of the cooking process.. add one egg when the water starts to boil, and eat up. YUM :D

and another vote for mee goreng satay!

actually, we have a vegetable steamer and its so good, you just chop them and put them in, press a button and 30 mins later they are done and they taste so much better than regular vegetables, and you can use it for other stuff like chicken and fish as well
