A Zeolite is a catalyst used for cracking alkanes, and they are generally crystalline aluminosilicates( compounds of aluminium, silicon and oxygen, with some other extra metal ions attached). Generally Aluminosilicates have no defined shape, but the zeolites have a very ordered shape, giving them a large surface area, thus making them very effective as catalysts.
