Anyone have any ideas of what to write for the creative writing section in paper 1?

Heh, in my Prelims Creative Writing, I wrote about a homosexual nomad =D
He also catches his boyfriend cheating on him with a girl in semi-explicit detail

I'm doing a guy with obsessive compulsive disorder but he thinks he's perfect. It relates to identity.

Mine was about a baby in the womb, and the whole story was from the babies perspective.

It was supposed to be dystopian..might be a little obscure, but hey!

I'm thinking of doing a man flying home from a business trip seeing a loving family being happy then he thinks about his family and how much time he doesn't with them and he decides to change and spend more time with them but when he arrives home he finds his family dies in a tsunami and he realizes that his change was too late.

I just thought of it now. So what do you people think? Is it a good story for change?

Sounds rather melodramatic, kaz1. Maybe he goes home and finds his family resists him, and are not ready for change? Might be a little more complex and less excessive death related.

I always use this stock story about Virginia Woolf's suicide note writing, as its really ambiguous and the change (catalyctic and ideas to actions) is really unsubtle, which they like...

I was under the assumption that the story itself is not what's marked, but the language techniques used
Pretty much any story can be fixed to fit the theme
So I suppose you should just use the story that's comfortable for you, depending on your writing style

Don't write anything regarding:

- death
- violence
- marriage
- boyfriend/girlfriend
- sex
- sickness such as schizo

That's what my English teacher said.

Damn....

I usually write about
- rape
- death
- cancer (wrote that in the SC! - dunno how I integrated that with laughter)
- marriage or bf/gf

BTW - I'm not a sad emo person or anything like that - I just thought they would increase creativity - I do not support or enjoy any of those ideas.

Guess I'll have to find new ideas.

LOL yes. My teacher said that alot of students write about these and fail because:

  • everyone writes about it and it gets boring to read
  • no one has actually BEEN in that state to actually write it
  • given the constraints, some of these ordeals are so large, that you cannot write it in exam time or under word limits.

LOL - the comment I usually get is that I'm melodramatic and that I waffle a lot.

How does your teacher know I haven't been in that state :p

Yeah - I thought I would fail my SC because of that - I did alright though.

These are guidelines. If one's imagination is good enough, with enough skill one should be able to write an awesome creative piece.

My teacher told us not to write:
Waking up at the end as the resolution or similar (lol)
Fantasy or Sci-fi (takes too long to set up for a <1hr story)
Uhh.. I can't remember the rest
I usually disagree with my teacher anyways

Also, my creative writing piece in my prelims contained boyfriend(homosexual), violence, sex and death.
Oh dear

That's a big no-no too.

What you should write about is something you know a lot about. It's no use writing about "mystery" if you do not know how to captivate an audience.

:uhhuh:
