Hi
I would like to attend UNSW next year and do Engineering, specifically mechatronics (well not 100%).

The thing is i only do Mathematics Extension 1. I used to do Mathematics Extension 2, but i dropped it because i didn't like it, however i quite sure that i can do that style of math.

My question is will i have trouble doing Engineering (mechatronics) at UNSW without doing MX2... or will i need to do a bridging course?

Also, is there anybody who is currently doing Engineering and did not do MX2?

Many thanks in advance.

i dont think MX2 is a prerequisite for the course you want to do so you should be fine. bridging courses only teach up to MX1 knowledge i think which IMO indicates that MX1 is the most you need to know for any program at uni

AFAIK no program requires MX2, so yea I think theres no problem

kudos for thinking about uni this early though :)

i did 2 unit and did the bridging course before starting uni. 3 unit is sweet, 4 unit is considered a bonus

from some cunt who goes to usyd.

oh ok so there is really no need for MX2 then?

no worries, complex numbers is covered within the first few weeks anyway.
what you need will be taught.

as this guy says.
even i did poorly at MX1 but well at 2 unit and im fine.

at most really well at MX1.
advanced maths requires a very high mark in MX1 if you didnt do MX2.

i did 2 unit.

maths 1: distinction.
maths 2: credit.

if you try hard you will do fine.

deal with it.

For Enginerering they should really say:

MX1 : HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

You don't need MX2, i didn't do it.

I ended up getting a HD for Math1A
and missed out on a HD by 1 mark for Math1B

So its possible to get good marks without MX2 provided you study consistantly
