I have heard from alot of people that if you get a rank of say 20 out of 30 internally and come first in the actual hsc exam you will get the mark of the person who came 20th in the hsc is this true?

What's important is the internal mark difference between each person.

Does the difference involve you getting some persons or part of someone's mark
nah. people don't simply "exchange" marks and stuff.

ok...as always let's start with some real-life example.

A, B, C

A = 97 at school
B = 96 at school
C = 93 at school

AND

A = 100 at HSC
B = 96 at HSC
C = 95 at HSC

NOW

Internal marks of A, B, C are moderated according to HSC marks.

so A's mark of 97 at school becomes 100
B's mark of 96 becomes 99 because his internal mark was very close to A's
C's mark of 93 becomes 96.

AND A, B, C keep their HSC marks.

So A = 100/100 = 100
B = 96/99 = 98 instead of 97 because he might have got 97.5+
C = 96/95 = 95

Lol person who came second got very lucky because if you weren't an accelerant, he would have come first meaning that he gets marks: 96/96 instead of 96/99.

maybe ye. the first guy did pull some of their marks up.

But the thing is...the guy who came 2nd was accelerant as well and he didn't care what he got for 2 unit.

I still cannot believe that he came 2nd though...he was beating the first in all 2 unit exams except the Trial...Trial slightly screwed him over >.<

But oh well, that 2nd guy is top in 3+4 unit maths now anyway. That's something to feel happy about hahaha
