Hi

I want to do Visual Communications at UTS and the UAI for the course over the past few years has been between 88 and 95.

I've just completed my half yearly's and my results are:

Advanced English, 79%, 16th/50
General Maths, 78% 5th/55
Modern History, 80%, 1st/16
Studies of Religion II, 86%, 1st/15
Visual Arts, 98%, 3rd/30

im just wondering what sort of UAI i should expect and how much i need to raise my marks to get a UAI over 90

thanks :)

First of all, what is your school's rank?
Your ranks are good.
If you improve English and general maths, you're on your way.. to 90s

194 is pretty good.

Remain 1st in modern and religion, you might/could get a band 6.
Some would advise improving your rank in visual arts, but of course 98% obviously puts you near 1st anyway.

Definitely improve general maths and Advanced English and you could be getting in to the 90s easy.

Your school rank from the previous year doesn't in itself affect your results. HOWEVER, it's a good measurement of how well your school will do this year...And due to the scaling process, the hsc exam performance of the people in your classes will probably significantly affect your mark. So your school rank for the year you do the hsc does, but you only discover the school rank after it's finished of course. In short: school rank is indicative of how well your grade will probably do.

No, a friend once got similar results to you and got a UAI much lower than 90.
General Maths will fuck you over.

yea i also had a friend who achieved similar marks to those, and wanted to do visual communications/arts as she wanted to become an actress

however she did not get an uai above 90, but achieved a very good uai of 65

because of that, she realized that she could still get into the porn and into the growing "ugly fetish" section of the market

so dont worry, you can still win in life just like her, as she did become an "actress" despite her highschool results
