So enough about Christianity. How did people interpret the Judaism question? I believe it was something along the lines of:

Analyse the connection between the "laws and rules" and the "love of God", as referred to in the quotation, in the life of the adherents.

I wrote 3 pages on sexual ethics, and how the ethics were derived from the Halachah (Jewish Law), which is found in the Torah (Jewish belief). I said how most of Jewish beliefs and commandments, and hence their ethics, were based on loving and cherishing one God. I then linked separate ethics to how they demonstrated a love for God.

What do you think I'll get? :p

It was an extremely stupid question, and it shouldn't have been included into the exam.

I think I may have pulled it off - who knows. I threw in some common knowledge. Basically used a line from the passage that was linked to communion, then linked communion with the other sacraments and went on about their signifiance. Used a seperate line to talk about prayer and Sunday Worship, and also managed to get something in about the signifiance of Easter and Christmas, once again using a line from the passage.

Note to everybody who thinks they may have stuffed it, it should generally be sorted out in the marking centre so don't stress over it too much.

For the Christianity question all I did was talk about everything I know about saturday/sunday worship... somehow got 3 and a bit pages on it :)Didn't really incorporate the passage from Luke though except for just stating that Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross and then rose again on the third day...But meh, only spent about 25 mins on it...

Yeah, I was really lucky because our SOR teacher marked the paper last year and said to us they want to focus on a more inter-related approach, combining all facets of the religion. So we were lucky, I did Buddhism and wrote about all three components: environmental ethics, Temple Puja and the Dalai Lama. Yeah, we were the lucky ones.
um it only asked for ethics and practice unless u mentioned dalai lama's view on ethics???OMFG how horrible were those quotes

I put that in, but it definitely wasn't 8 pages of content, I only managed 4 with waffling on BS.

It was a kinda crappy question. From my point of view, it was just asking (for christianity at least) "why is christianity still alive in people's lives and how".

i took one look at the islam question, which i did, and went 'UM, WHAT THE FUCK'

WTF?! so i just wrote about friday prayer at the mosque and bioethics, and how the qur'an guides about them, ETC, some rubbish like that!!!!!!!

at least if we all flunk together, we'll all get marked up :D

our school is lodging a formal complaint because of the question, no one was prepared for quotes like that or the question given...i wrote 6 pages of bullshit on the everyday christian adherent but nothing like i thought id do :(
Why lodge a complaint? It was in the syllabus.

What's the go with people apparently walking out of the exam?? The question wasn't that bad the more I think of it. I did Islam. You could've just wrote whatever you planned on writing in it. The question was pretty broad. All you had to do was just mention that the teachings were in the Qu'ran or Hadith. That's what I did, wrote everything I knew about Islam- sexual ethics, Sufism, the Hajj. I was so wishing for a Hajj question- I even wrote a rap so I would remember the steps Muslims took during Hajj... It was very badly written, but surely not bad enough to walk out on. And as for complaining to BOS- yessss :) And has this kinda thing ever happened in a HSC exam before??

every person had the same problemchristianity and judaism had absolutely nothing to do with anything we were taught in the past year, it was somewhere in the prelim stuff we didmost schools have complained to board of studies about it. our school had a 45 minute argument over the whole thingteachers couldnt even answer the questionsboard of studies screwed up and if we get punished for it then thats just shit!

DW you guys, I sent in a request to ninemsn and channel 9 to do a little research about this issue and see if they can post it on their website, have a poll (to see if it was fair or unfair) or if they could talk about it on the today show!

Hopes up!

We were all affected... and I just want to spread the word about what had happened.

Apprently the Board of Studies people had a massive conference after the exam regarding this issue, if things proceed without a lot of complaints they will mark the exam 'easy' according to the principal of mine that went

This is for the person that made up the section III question - http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/waffen/violent-smiley-009.gif

To those of you who say it was in the syllabus, it was not. There was reference to the life of adherents in the introduction to the syllabus but really, how many people study that :/

Also, regarding the marking and scaling. I can understand that if you actually wrote an answer for the question to the best of your ability you would go reasonably alright (however they are going to mange this in the marking centre, I have no idea)

But a local school was instructed by their teachers and examiners to write "Invalid Question" for section III and were allowed to leave early without answering it.

My question is, what about these students? And the students who did not answer it?
People have suggested an average mark being awarded to those with no answer but realisitcally they cannot rank no-answer students as higher than 49% of the rest of the state.

If they were instructed not to answer the question, there is no way to award them the marks they could have achieved.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

guys, it WASNT THAT BAD, if you read and interpreted the question properly it was fine. everyone freaked out cos they couldnt see the words "ethics" or "practise" on the page spelling out exactly what you had to do.everyone is just chucking a tantrum cos they actually had to think for themselves, rather than spit out a memorised essay.yes it asked you to take stuff from the prelim course, and yes they can only ask you for 30%, and yes a 20 mark question = 40%, but the entire question wasnt based around prelim, for example, in Islam i could talk about bioethics, Hajj and A'isha because all were related to the revelation.everyone knows that the BOS isnt going to give you a band 6 that easily, the whole purpose of the question was to make students think for themselves and prevent them from using a memorised essay.i think it was a good question because you had to prove you understood all the basic concepts of the faith itsself... or at least it was like that in Islam, rather than just memorising quotes and stuff that Islamic leaders have put out about ethical issues. a band 6 answer is going to show you really understand how Islam works, not just 1 or 2 minor aspects of italso, i think its absolutely ridiculous that people walked out of the exam or refused to answer the question, for a lot of people the marks for this exam count towards the ATAR they needed, and they were prepared to throw it all away cos the question was a bit difficult?? grow up. seriously.

Lol! I can just see tonight's episode of ACA and Tracey Grimshaw.. "Tonight we bring a Channel Nine exclusive- HSC SOR students fight back!!" I would not be surprised if ACA does do a story on this, I would be even less surprised, no, I expect Today Tonight to at least mention this.

Very wide scope question
considering the Board always stipulates that we wont be marked on anything appart for the sylabus!!
hypocritical
if everyone sends in complaints we will possibly get marked leniently :)

What's funny is people are STILL not entirely sure what the questions were asking..........It's still all speculation. If most people can't figure it out now, how would we be expected to work it out, under pressure, in the exam room?
