Gosh I hate answering some of these questions. Why is there no option where I can ramble about how questions are establishing false dichotomies, or where I can complain about my suspicion that my answer is going to be interpreted incorrectly. :(
Agreed.

No real incentive for a private entity to provide defense because where would they make their $$$$'s? Invading other country's for oil and gold? That wouldn't end too well. Not to mention the ridiculous capital outlay that would be required.

You can make money by providing an educational service, should definitely be the private sector duty.

As for healthcare, it comes down to that whole idea of asymmetric information and hidden characteristics (people abusing the system). With universal public healthcare there is the possibility that with differential information about the qualities of an aspect relevant to trade the more informed party may benefit at the expense of the less informed. ie. US THE TAXPAYERS PAY FOR SOME FUCKSTICKS WHO CANT GET A JOB TO GET FREE HEALTHCARE.

wow.

Have any of you idiots actually seen your leftist ideologies in practice, as opposed to what RIGHT has done in the past 3 decades for the global economy?

LET ME RUN YOU THROUGH IT QUICKLY

World population = 1 bn in 1900 6 bn today
Life expectancy = 40 yrs “ 70 yrs “
Child mortality (<1yr old) = 25% “ 6% “
% read & write = 25% “ 80% “
Poverty (<US$2 per day) = almost 1 bn “ 1 bn “

Most of that can be attributed to the growth in China and India with their financial liberated economies!

Communism isn't even good in theory. Why would you want everyone to be equal? Class/social divide is an inevitable part of life, and is actually a healthy normal thing.

it's just like any other service, people demand it, so they pay someone to provide it. Also I'd question whether standing armies, public or private are needed at all if the people are well armed.

then you assume people will pay them to defend the country. I don't think enough people would put enough money aside to pay for a decent defense force. Maybe if we got into some conflict they would, but that would be too late in this day and age of modern warfare.

Re: BOS political compass scatterplot

Throughout Northern Europe?
Europe has never attained any decent macroeconomic performance indicators, what their natural rate of unemployment is like 9% or something ridiculously high illustrating a rigid and regulated labour market. Not to mention how they all survive amongst each other through their common currency, through the help and guidance of the EU FREEING THE TRADE AMONGST MEMBER COUNTRIES (surely not a leftist ideal)

Turns out that socialist policies work quite well when you have a small population and massive reserves of natural resources for state owned companies to sell. If you look at countries like Singapore and Hong Kong that have built themselves up from nothing wihout natural endowments you'll notice they have a high degree of economic freedom.

I'm not sure if the law of demand would hold towards defense. Infact, i'm quite sure it would not.

Perhaps I care about more than macroeconomic performance indicators ;)

Re: BOS political compass scatterplot

well they would have to or risk being left defenceless

personally i would find it smarter to pay for a private defence contractor than to pay $2000 to arm myself lol

as would i but i think people are retarded when it comes to these types of things. eitherway, im not too fussed about whether the government had a role in a country's defense. i just think its one of the only things they are needed for.

Re: BOS political compass scatterplot

yeah but i guess if everyone bought a rifle, when a war broke out, we would have a decent militia, assuming that automatics were legalised and most people undertook some sort of training

So people can be trusted to do everything for themselves, except when it comes to defense. Then people suddenly become morons who are incapable of acting in their own best interests without a violent monopoly forcing them to.

You're a joke.

The very idea of arming every Tom, Dick and Harry is abhorrent.

The reality is that a nation's defenses, at least in most democracies, are controlled by people who know a lot more about it than you, me and most people.

Imagine the most batshit crazy person you know, or the nuttiest person that you know of in your community. Now imagine them with an assault rifle. That's where the whole fucking stupid idea collapses.
