Hey guys @ boredofstudies

I am in need of some rather dire help.

I haven't really put in the effort in highschool for my exams so i have been put into lower classes because of my laziness.

These are the subjects i have chosen and i am pretty worried about ataining a high Atar unless i do astronomically well in all.

Geography|English Standard|General Maths (Want to do 2 unit but seems impossible according to my school)PDHPE|Business Services|Biology

I was thinking of changing some of the subjects around like Biology for IPT and maths for 2 Unit maths...

I'm getting the feeling that i won't get that atar needed for any course that i may choose to do...

So what would you guys suggest i do? I mean I'm not a incompetent person just never learned how to study effectively so i don't memorise all exam context..

Really worried. Could actually use any advice now.

Change is incredibaly difficult. How sure are you that you can go from total laziness to being hardworking?

I see what you mean but i mean i don't have a choice if i don't change my ways and part towards working my ass off i am not going to achieve anything and then just going to live a life of regret.

I believe i can pull my finger out and work and attain better results i just need that little push of advice that can steer me onto the right study method or the extra motivation required to achieve my goals.

You can achieve a high ATAR with almost any combination of subjects so if your school won't let you change subjects at this stage work really hard and see what you can achieve.

I realise that but for any business/ipt/science course at usyd or nsw your looking at 85 ATAR + ... My school will let me change subjects but my range won't be quite as large as before.. due to the timetable arrangements i'll be limited to my choices...

Seriously... good luck in changing your ways from being lazy to hardworking.

Just remember to try your best in the preliminary year and try out different study techniques that works best for you. Remember consistency is the key to success, if u plan on studying one hour a day then study one hour a day. Don't skip days and develop the habit of being lazy.

Good luck!

Well if it counts i went from "total laziness" to "hardworking" so it is possible.

I'd try and get into 2U maths if i were you, so work hard these holidays to prove yourself. Oh and if you want to swap bio to IPT, you'd have to do to super well in IPT to compensate for dodgy scaling. But there is a heck of a lot of content in bio so if you can't remember exam content you'd probably be better off with IPT.

Good luck!

thanks for the reply anna, I am going to have a meeting with the maths director first thing this week. In regards to bio and ipt i think i'll stay with bio... As biology is sometimes a prerequisite for any science subjects where as ipt i don't think is for all it based courses. Probably doesn't help me doing standard english and business services which both are horrid for scaling...

No worries. Yeah bio is probably the better option seeing as IPT scales only a little better than business services :/

Oh and scaling for standard and advanced is the same, the difference is in the aligning ;)

Just study effectively and you'll be fine ^^

Its good that you have the right attitude :)

Like some one already mentioned, just try to be consistent in your study. If thats a problem then you might consider getting yourself a tutor.

2 unit mathematics is top priority.
then replace any subject with a better science subject like chemistry or physics.
school will interview me for chemistry... because I'm in a lower class. I was going to do chem but didn't quite grasp the equations but everything else i knew alright...

Just remember that the subjects you choose should hold your interest. Keep 2 unit maths, thats an imperative; its always better to start high so you have the option to go down if you have to.

And for science also keep Chem., its (what I've heard) really interesting, and if your not confident in it just buy yourself a science textbook (sc level) and go over things. Its not that hard and most textbooks usually cover past the year 10 sylabus into basic year 11 content (ie, different bonds, isotopes etc.) :p

Well i did shit in my yearlies for maths so i am not applicable to do 2 unit maths. And my dad said he doesn't want me doing Chemistry because it's insanely hard and not for me.... He told me that i would regret it..

so yeh.
