I plan on moving in with my girlfriend next year, after she's finished high school.

This would mean that it took nearly 5 years to do so.

Assuming your question applies to a situation you are in, in some way, there aren't any specific set amounts of time that automatically mean you should/could move in together. Some couples take years, some take months, even weeks. A good test to decide is to see if they have some habits that are *very* frustrating, or if they get annoying after hours of prolonged exposure. If you find it difficult to be in the same vicinity as yer partner for longer than 10 hours, let alone days on end, then maybe it's not for you.

And if your question was just to develop conversation, you won't get much asking on a student forum, as not many of the users have actually moved out of home yet.
