Sorry, i don't know exactly cos i haven't had my KPMG interview yet, but it should be within a few hours?
But even if you don't get a reply today, don't worry too much, because they probably give some 'definite' offers straight up to people who really stand out, and then maybe give more offers after all the interviews are complete to fill up some kind of quota.
Hopefully you hear from them soon, good luck!

Sorry to repost this but no one answered the other half of my question haha which was:

I was just wondering is it beneficial to get an accounting cadetship if I am considering majoring in finance because I want to enter the banking industry.
But I'm really keen to gain some work experience, while studying and also getting paid!

Yeah, a lot of accountants also have a finance major. And the big 4 companies such as ey have a financial services division for assurance, which works specifically with banks, insurance companies etc, so it could be a good place to start
But, if you're interested in getting into the banking industry straight away, maybe you could do the UNSW finance coop, or UTS accounting coop which is sponsored by banks such as Westpac, Macquarie, AMP etc.
Hope that helps :)

got an EY offer in assurance-financial services :D
hey congrats!! I was interviewed the same day as you and I got an offer in EY assurance financial services too!

Tambam, if your display name is any indication of your actual name then I think I was in your group activity! :) Did you have 3 managers, an asian male who sat at the very end, and an asian lady who stood up for the most of the activity and a caucasian ladie who sat in a corner by the window? sorry if i'm totally on the wrong track :p

added: has anyone received their contracts yet?

I think I will! Since EY is the only firm I applied for, I don't have much choice :p

I haven't received the contract yet, so I'll have to read through that first.

From my understanding, EY assurance financial services take on around 5 cadets every year, and Advisory Risk takes on around 2, but other than that I'm not so certain about the specific number of offers made this year.

and to answer your question oyuck, I'm doing a dual degree in commerce science at the moment so I will drop my science degree

Hey seremify,

I've decided not to apply for any cadetships. Main reason being that I don't feel I'm that motivated enough to do it to be honest and I'd sort of like to relax/socialise more during uni (hope I don't sound lazy here).

However, I do not want to totally slack off during uni and still hope to improve my career prospects in some way. I know I should get good grades/do extra-curriculurs, etc. but I've also heard about summer vacation programs. Can you explain what these are and if they are any good?

Thanks in advance.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention and I'm sorry for being so slow to respond- I didn't see this post before.

It's perfectly fine to not want to do a cadetship- not everyone does. At the end of the day it's a full time job commitment in a very specific industry which may or may not help you in the future. If you'd prefer to really get into university life and do things like extra curricular/society activities then a cadetship will only make it harder. I personally was involved in quite a few things back when I was at uni whilst being a trainee, but I could've done more if I had more time.

Most people who do join the firm and eventually go on to become partner don't necessarily join through the trainee program. Quite a few are ex-trainees, but a lot who I've spoken to were vaccies so don't feel like you're missing out.

hi seremify
i have a kpmg interview tomorrow and i was wondering if u could give me any tips..
particluarly about the written assesment
Apologies I missed this before but I think the tips are still quite generic and similar to every other interview tips thread on here. It's all about presentation, showing how you fit in with the organisation, and ultimately proving you are the perfect fit for a role.

Haha yep, that's me :) Give me a clue as to who you are (where were you sitting in relation to me)
And congrats on the offer, i'll see you at the celebratory drinks next week!

Also at whoever else got an ey offer + received the contract, can you tell me what the 'gift' is meant to be used for? I seriously have no clue...

I know of 2 people from my interview day who did. You'll know from your name tag, some people just had 'Assurance' and some had 'Assurance- Financial Services'

hey tambam, just quickly wanted to ask - did you specify assurance-financial services on your application? - like online, when it said preference, did you put assurance or assurance fs?

cheers
