From the 2010 CSSA:

Hamlet is a valued text because it explores challenging ideas of love and rivalry. Discuss this statement in light of your understanding of Hamlet. Make reference to the play.

Could someone help me out on where to start? I find this question harder than previous papers because it is asking specifically within the frame of two themes, rather than a general question allowing you talk about all aspects of the play. Even though it is not asked in the question, do references have to be made to textual integrity? I'm just a bit lost.

I would approach it as:

How are these themes represented in the text, and how do they contribute to the integrity of the text?

So basically I'd explore the themes, back them up with evidence, and then state how they have shaped both my understanding of the text, and the text itself.
