Ok, well basically I'm trying to decide whether to drop a subject or not back to 10 units. The subjects I'm doing atm are English Advanced, General Maths, Physics, Biology, Geography and Ancient History. The subject I would be dropping is Ancient - mainly because I've found I have burnt out doing the subjects I have (my school makes a big deal about science, making us do weekly practicals and summaries of all the syllabus dot points for example) and I'm finding I feel as if I need to drop Ancient because of the workload.
I can't drop Geography, Physics or Biology because I need them for uni, and it'd be stupid to also drop Maths considering it's my best subject.
Most of my marks sit around the 80% mark apart from maths which it sitting on around 90% at the moment.

I want to drop, because I know I'll have the time to concentrate on my other subjects, and lift them. From the last lot of assessments, I got to the stage where I burnt out and my marks were lower in comparison to where they normally are. So I feel as if it's something I need to do. I'm worried about dropping to 10 units though because then I'll have no back up subject if something goes wrong, but if I stay with 12, I might end up doing poorly overall in comparison to doing potentially better in the subjects I'd choose to do 10 with.

I haven't made a decision yet, but what do you think?

I think you have answered your own question. Personally, if you think you can do better with 10 units then you should do 10. Yes, ten units is a risk, but you are dropping it in order to give yourself more time in your other subjects. I think you risk getting a lower ATAR with 12 units then you would with 10.

You want to drop Ancient History... so why don't you do it? Just make sure you don't stuff up in your remaining 10 though. From what I see the benefit outweighs the cost.

In your case, I recommend dropping Ancient. I think you'll perform well in your 10 units and not need to worry :)

Out of curiosity, what do you need Geo, Physics and Bio at for uni?

Because at uni (if I get the ATAR - about 78), I'll be doing a bachelor of science with a major in climate science OR something along the lines of environmental/earth sciences and the careers advisor told me that I need two sciences and geography. I would have done Earth and Environmental science at school but, they never offered it which was disappointing.

But I totally believe you can get 78 :) Good luck!!!

How do you know you've burnt out?

And who knows if you'll use the extra time to study? I know I don't.

You've already decided to drop.
But anywho, I have 12 units and I'm in year 12 and I only got to 4 of 7 classes a fortnight for one of my subjects and I'm coming 2nd. So I don't think 12 units is a massive workload even though I have to catch up on half the lessons and shit but it isn't that much work.
