I was just wondering if your school rank actually means anything in terms of your final results? also i was wondering if the hsc marks you receive on your phone are raw marks or scaled marks and if they are scaled how does the scaling work? Thanks
Any published ranks you have seen for your school will be irrelevant to you. The ranks are done again every year based on each new cohorts results - so your results will determine the new rank of your school to be published after this year's results are finalised.
The marks - plural - you receive in December are:
aligned exam mark
moderated school assessment mark
average of above two - HSC mark.
Aligning is the process whereby a group of markers determine the cut-off marks for each of the bands. This is done each year for each subject.
Moderation is the process whereby the BOS uses the exam marks, range and mean, to report the school assessment marks so that they are now fair across the state.
