Top schools are public because they are Selective. What's your school's rank?
Selective schools are still public schools. :) My school rank in 2009 (my year) was 9th, in 2010 6th or 7th.

My Physics teacher uses a "Reduced Syllabus" that cuts out ALOT of dot points that are required. In Waves and Electricity, 26 dot points were missing in his "Reduced Syllabus". I suppose all I can really do now is just learn from textbooks and from the Syllabus?

My Chemistry teacher is actually really good however he only teaches one class. I'm not quite sure as to why they underperform so much in Chemistry with a teacher like him. He actually follows the dot points on the Syllabus and covers all of them.
Physics: Yeah, the textbook is the way to go there. Any questions that you have, ask your teacher. If he doesn't answer them satisfactorily, ask here.

OP, you school is getting less band sixes than you'd expect for a such high ranking school, so it is obviously making them up in another subject area (maybe strong maths or english results or humanities?).

I think our English gets about 50 Band 6s (not sure) and your humanities jumps around but I think atleast half will get Band 6 since they pick those subjects since they like it.

In Maths, there's about 25/100 Band 6s. In MX1, I'm not sure but probably around 20/60 and I have no idea in MX2.

Never said they weren't public schools :p
I really wouldn't rely on my teacher.

50 Band 6s for English is heaps. Explains why your school is ranked so high.

Out of a cohort of about 150 so it's still about 33% which only gives us slightly more than our 30% overall.
In some years, that would be better than my school. We'd get about 40 Band 6s in English in a cohort of 210.

And I'm going to move this to General Discussions of HSC.

I'm not exactly sure of the numbers but that's what I've heard. It might be 40 at our school aswell but a smaller cohort.

No I dont think you are underperforming.
In chemistry My school only got 34 band 6s last year out of a cohort of 86, and were ranked 8th
Then again, were also famous for having an incompetent science department.
Compared to us you are not underperforming, but it is probably more likley that my school is also underperforming...

That's about 40% DA. Still rather close to the 50% (I think it was 50%) standard of a rank 8 school.

Our school gets 30% DA across the board. 2-3/70 DA which is about 4-5%. Still worse I think.

My school is rank ~30 and each year, we only see a maximum of 4-5 Band 6s in Chemistry and Physics each. Some years, there would be only 1 or 2 out of a cohort of ~70 in each.

How many Band 6s would you expect from a school at this rank?
what school do you go to man?

you guys r defs underperforming. my skool last year out of 77 students doing chemistry 17 band sixes. we ranked ~50. and physics we had a guy get high state rank and we had like 15 band sixes/65 students.
How did your school go in English?
