AN Olympic swimmer who said he's been the victim of a deliberate hit and run accident has changed his statement and says he wasn't hit by a car.
Swimming Australia today confirmed Kenrick Monk changed his statement to police, saying he had injured himself in a skateboard accident .
Monk suffered two broken bones in his elbow in the incident on Wednesday in a major blow to his Olympic chances.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist had told police that a P-plate driver deliberately struck him.
"I remember the guys in the car yelling 'oi' and laughing. I turned and I got whacked on the side - that was it," Monk said.
"I thought it was a scare tactic but it went too far.
"They were young and dumb, trying to impress their mates."
Swimming Australia chief executive Kevin Neil released a statement saying 23-year-old Monk had broken his elbow in two places "falling off a skateboard with no other vehicle involved".
"The entire matter is regrettable and we will be making no further comment until the full details of the incident are known," Mr Neil said.
