Hey guys so I'm a tad confused with how to write the introduction for my Analytical Essay on "How are the perceptions of belonging shaped within a personal context in your prescribed text and at least one other text of your own choosing?"

Am i supposed to include a thesis statement in the introduction?

I wont post what i have written for fear of my teachers finding this and thinking i have plagiarised someone else's work.

If you'd like to read what i have, PM or whatever it is on this site. Thank you guys in advance.

Can someone give me a rough outline of how and what i should include in my introduction, and perhaps the following paragraphs?
Just points on what should be included in each.

I tended to structure my introduction as:

  • Opening statement/personal definition of belonging
  • Introduce texts - brief words on how it relates to belonging
  • Relation between texts - some overarching theme or issue
  • Final statement which definitely answers the question.
Overall, the way I structured my intros was a developmental structure where each part built upon the previous parts which led towards the final statement answering the question.

With the body, generally, each paragraph was structured as:

  • Raising a theme
  • Relation to the text and question
  • Quote/technique
  • Discussion
  • (repeat with another quote to strengthen point)
  • How it answers the question, ie. link to question

Thank you so much for your quick reply, so informative the only problem i have with your layout is that i can't answer the question, the question being "How are the perceptions of belonging shaped within a personal context in your prescribed text and at least one other text of your own choosing?"

I'm struggling to find a way to answer that :/

Not knowing your prescribed text will make it difficult to answer the question. Once you've defined belonging, ie. your line of argument in relation to the concept of belonging, I would say to look at how the immediate experiences of the protagonist have shaped their ability to belong to society. It could be how they react to new experiences of belonging, new people, a new and different society.
