Is it impossible to get 99 ATAR if my ranking in school is not amazing (as in top 10-ish)...
My school ranking is 40-50's and my ranks are not super high. Still waiting on trial results though and also yet to do some but I'm not sure if that would make much of a difference.
Also is the internal assessment part based on rank as well? Or marks?

what are your ranks? and no, school rank does not determine anything, just cohort strength. It very much depends on your ranking and your subjects

So if my ranking is poo I can't get a "good" ATAR? :(

Ranks are around:
English Advanced: 60/200
Math: 40/150
Math Extension 1: 30/60
Biology: Top 5/100
Chemistry: 20/80
Physics: 30/60

Not including trials...Is it possible to get a good rank after trials because I think I did pretty well...

Yes you can get a good ATAR but no I very highly doubt you'll get 99 with those ranks in a school ranked in the 40's - hopefully you can prove us wrong though.

Good luck :)

You most likely won't get 99 ATAR. I attended a top 40ish school and those who achieved 99+ were the top 5 or so of their subjects (bar English). And forget about ranks for a moment, they all achieved HSC marks in the order of mid-90s. That's what you need to achieve even with good ranks.

Ahh thanks everyone. So if I can get a decent rank and do well in the external (all band 6 for example) I can still get 95+?
Because I seemed to be getting the impression from the other estimates that if your rank isn't top 10% there's no chance of a 'good' atar...

Define "good atar", you can probably get around 90 with those ranks.
