So far I have 36 for phys1131 and 36 for math1131
are they going to scale down the mark if I only get 14 for each course?

I know that I need to get 30 for phys1131 final exam (50% of 60 total mark for final exam).
just in case that I am going to fail because I don't pass the phys1131 final exam (because engineering only take the first attempt mark to calculate WAM, I don't want it to be really low)

There's barely any scaling in PHYS1121/1131. Given you pass, your mark is essentially your raw mark because the distribution of marks are fairly consistent with the UNSW standards. But if you get 14/60 for Physics, you will receive a Fail or PC (this will depend on your marks; you may be dropped to a 49 to keep consistency). You have to pass the final exam to pass the course, regardless of your marks. However, you may be allowed to sit a retest where the average of your exam marks will be used to determine your final mark and grade (but you need to pass this as well).

With maths, I believe you just have to get an overall 50, so you should not be scaled down.

There aren't any "you need to pass the final" rules in math1131. But from what I understand, the way that they get your final reported grade from your raw marks involves a certain amount of moderating the marks. As one lecturer said, "if you do well enough to just pass we give you 50, not if you get a raw mark of 50 you just pass". The final maths exam is usually much harder than the class tests/maple etc so I think that lots of people probably pass with a raw mark less than 50. If your raw mark is at least 50 I'd say you were pretty safe. (I think that they are happy to pass as many people as they can!)
