Hey guys-

Ok someone sent me this question and I'm stumped. Apparently the answer is 18 but not 100% sure. Either way, if anyone could give me a reason why the answer is 18 (or any of the other options), that would be amazing.

Cheers =)

Question: What is the most likely number needed to complete the following pattern? (this is meant to be a box BTW below)

6, 32, 8
4, 21, 4
3, ?, 12

A) -3
B) 18
C) 9
D) 30

Whoops sorry. Is that better?

Is there a way of putting a table in here?
What kind of magic square is this?

In a magic square each diagonal, row and column must add up to a constant number
That is clearly not the case here.

Oh right haha sorry- that's why the magic square had a question mark after it. I tried all the obvious things (adding, multiplying, adding digits etc.) and none worked but I didn't know what to call it so I called it magic square? because it sorta looks like one.

are the patterns just across and down or diagonal?
No idea. That's why it sucks- someone asked me and a few others and no one has any idea what is going on with this puzzle. I reckon if you find a pattern, even if it doesn't work diagonally- stuff it- I'll take it haha

My attempt:

Call ? = x

6 + 32 + 8 = 46

4 + 21 + 4 = 29

3 + x + 12 = x + 15

Now the first two results have a difference of 17. So the last two must have a difference of 17

This x + 15 = 29 - 17

x= -3

I reckon its a question with no definitive answer, and that possibly all of them could be potential numbers. But that the point is to find a way to get those numbers.

lool this is a super typical IQ test question, and btw you're thinking too simply about this Sy, gotta think of as many relationships as you can with these things, and the hard ones typically have some often very abstract patterns, a lot more complex than simply adding/subtracting rows/colums/diagonals together.

EDIT: Riproot has the idea, good job.

Third row - (top row - bottom row) = answers

Third column gives 8, first gives 1, 8 - 1 = 7

x - (32 - 21) = 7
x = 18
I'm very impressed. That works- very solid stuff bro!
