I was reading the Board of Studies information on their process for moderating assessment marks, and I was wondering if, for example, I had an assessment mark of 90 in English Advanced, and in my HSC examination I received 80, would my assessment mark be moderated down to 80?

PS; this is taking into account that both results are the top of my group.

I have also heard a bit about averaging results, but I don't know at what stage this happens. Where does averaging occur in the process of our final results being made?

If you come first internally and achieve the highest externally at your school, then yes your moderated assessment mark and examination mark would both be 80. Note that the internal marks don't reflect your HSC marks, it is your rank internally that makes the difference

If you scored say 76 in your externals with the highest examination mark in your cohort being 80 but remained first internally, then your hsc mark would be the average of 76 (examination mark) and 80 (moderated assessment mark) --> 78
