I believe that it is exponential, the older you get the larger gap is socially accepted. At 15/16 it is socially preferable to have the same age or maybe a year +/-. Whereas at the age of, lets say 30 I think that a 2/3 year gap is socially acceptable and so it goes on.

When you're young, I don't think you should go out with somebody more than 2 years or so older or younger than you but as people get older the less age difference matters. Take my father and his partner for example, there's a 9 year age gap between them. When his partner was 16 and he was 25, that wouldn't have worked out or been socially acceptable but now she's 32 and he's 41 people don't think anything of it.

This thread raises another question. Is it alright to go out with a female that is older than you?

ObliviousNinja is probably laughing at the fact that I'm the youngest person in my grade

Its completely alright. I've gone out with girls older than me; once in year 7, she was in year 9. The other time I was in year 10, she was in uni. I guess the age gap doesn't matter between year 8-10, but otherwise, it seems a tad peculiar. Like, a 16 year old going out with an 18 year old; that gap is... idk. I felt like understanding older women was harder, especially when they're adults. Otherwise, year 8 and 10 or 9 and 11, should be fine.
