How'd everyone go? Wasn't too hard from memory but I'm pretty sure i didnt get the 2 marker about the standard model. Also with the last question, did anyone else talk about de Broglie using the pre-existing concept of 'waves acting as particles' to come up with the idea that 'particles can act with wave properties' then go on to talk about de broglie wavelength and relate it to the bohr model? or did i completely miss the mark?

I talked about de Broglie's hypothesis based on the discovery of waves acting like particles, and then how the de Broglie wavelength can be rearranged to match Bohr's postulate of angular momentum, and then talked about how it led to the science of quantum mechanics.

I said de broglie's postule, then i explained how it was better than bohr's model ( Explained orbital location and their stability with n*wavelength= 2*pi*r). I stated how he used bohr's postlate of stability, and rutherford's idea of electron orbitals. Then i talked about standing waves and afterwards, how it was proven by Davisson germer through diffraction of a crystal/ evidence for his theorem and then conclusion. :D

I talked about the development of the atomic model from Bohr to de Broglie in regards to stable electron orbitals. After that I talked about the de Broglie wavelength and how he used ideas of the wave-particle duality to suggest that all matter had a wavelength. Hopefully I wrote enough for 7 marks.

I think you also need to say that de Broglie used Einstein's photon theory to state that particles could also possess the particle-way duality.

The 7 mark question was pretty good this year. Luckily, the Board of Studies didn't ask about the Standard Model.

I thought the whole 'structure of matter' thing in the last question hinted towards neutron scattering/probing via neutron's de Broglie wavelength.

Why would you need to go to Heisenberg and Pauli?
How did DE Broglie blah blah increased our knowledge of the understanding of matter? Led to heisenberg and pauli which have also aided in the understanding. Ah, i dont know haha I did Q2Q first, so was probably too excited LOL hope to get at least 5-6

I was actually quite disappointed actually. Was expecting a harder response like about Manhattan or Standard Model, where it would stump most of the state. :/

Is Manhattan supposed to be hard? I had the 7 marker on Manhattan's impact on society for my trial and didn't have any trouble. Standard Model on the other hand..

Manhattan isn't too bad i agree, but i still think its a bit more challenging than De Broglie.. First 2 foci for Q2Q is a breeze.

I would have found Manhattan much more easy to write about, because there's so much to write about and I could of easily written 3-4 pages on it, whereas I struggled to write a page and a half on de Broglie. Just my opinion though. I'm sure the amount of content for Manhattan would be a hindrance for other people.
