I want to major in advanced stats

I currently have:
-Discrete math (1081)
-Higher math 1A (1141)
-Math 1A (1131)


What should i pick for my last course?

The quantitative risk major seems nice, can I pick any subjects, get sufficient WAM and then ask permission to get into this major?

You can't do both MATH1141 and MATH1131 lel

You need to do MATH1141 (cause ADV maths), MATH1081, SCIF1121 (required). For the last course you could either do something that pertains to the degree (like PHYS, COMP1911/17) or something fun.

they're like 95% the same thing

1131 and 1141 students learn the same topics. Except that 1141 students has a harder final exam.

SCIF1121 (compulsory)
MATH1141
MATH1081

And whatever you want. Anything interest you in particular? Maybe take a Chemistry 1A course or Physics 1A course. Also Quant. Risk is nice - if you look at the handbook entry for that, you'll see they recommend MATH1151 but you want to do stats so take 1141.

tl;dr You've done all the maths you need to for Sem 1, pick an interest subject as your fourth.

why cant i do 1141 and 1131?

Please read the Handbook. You have to do MATH1141: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/plans/2014/MATHU13986.html

Then read the MATH1141 page: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/courses/2014/MATH1141.html

It states MATH1131 is excluded from MATH1141, so even if you had the option of doing either, only one would count, hence you would be wasting your time and money!
